Puzzle Hunt Puzzles

Above is an example Puzzle Hunt Puzzle. The goal is obtain an unambiguous word or phrase - but it is intentionally unclear how to decode the puzzle. That's where your deduction comes in. Unlike Sudoku, or a word search, you have to work out how the answer is encoded in the puzzle. Once you uncover the rules, the solution is often straightforward.

Almost every Puzzle Hunt Puzzle is solved differently - but here are some general guidelines for solving them.

  1. No red herrings. Outside of the title, Puzzle Hunt Puzzles rarely give information that's not needed. (Occasionally the title can even be a clue.)
  2. Multiple layers. Puzzle Hunt Puzzles often have two or three steps. Generally, you'll solve the first level of the puzzle to get a second set of clues. Then you'll use those clues to get the final solution.

  1. The positions of the words are not random.
  2. The meaning of the words isn't important - but their sound is.
  3. Certain words have a particular quality.
